Once again, the Father-Daughter Dance was a huge success. Mostly, because Madison ditched her dad and hung with her friends the entire time. She is definitely turning into a young lady. The little girl in her still shines through by way of her desire to stuff two cupcakes, jello, a handful of chicken tenders, and a Shirley Temple into her tiny stomach (which I am convinced is made of iron), however. Between the horse-drawn carriage rides and the dancing, we both had a tremendous time. Here are the pics.

After a brief hiatus, I have jumped back on the saddle and started running again. My left calf, as you probably know, has been giving me fits over the course of the last few weeks. I think a lot had to do with me trying to do too much too soon after the half in Vegas. Part of me is appreciative that our bodies know more about us than our brains do and have a way of telling us when to shut it down. On the other hand, other parts (e.g., the 10 pounds that I feel like I put on in the past six weeks) are not so great.
So, in order to ensure that I do not push myself too much yet remain in fair to moderate shape, I have been running in short spurts here and there this week. Looking to the calendar, I have 20+ weeks until my race in Fontana. I figure, if I am smart about the way I set this up, I can give myself four weeks to build up my endurance and then hit training hard come mid-February. This week was a bit of a washout (literally) since we received 8-10 inches of rain and my wind-blown, freezing, and soaking wet run yesterday lasted all of .6 miles. In that amount of time, I was soaked and so were my feet. There was no way in hell I was going to run 4 as planned, so I just shut it down.
This injury has taught me one thing: take each run for what it is worth; good or bad, slow or fast. Better to be able to run than go out too fast and have to shut it down again.
Thanks to ESPNBoston.com, John Kruk, and Tim Kurkjian for destroying any glimmer of hope that I had for the Sawx this year. Turns out, they like the pitching matchup, but hate the offense. I can’t say that I disagree but after the manhandling the Pat’s just made all of us suffer through, I had hoped there would be dominationof the AL East somewhere noted in this video. Looks like I was wrong…
